HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c395W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has had any recent discussions with the chairman of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority concerning the policy preference declared by the chairman on 11 October at a nuclear facilities decommissioning conference, that large mildly radioactive reactor parts should be disposed of in the Atlantic ocean.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

My right hon. Friend has not had any recent discussions with the chairman of the UKAEA on this subject. It is Government policy that the sea disposal option should be kept open for large items arising from decommissioning operations.
