To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is proposed to consider changes in the law relating to the investigations of complaints against the police, in the light of representations from the chairman of the Police Complaints Authority.

I intend shortly to circulate a consultation document seeking comments on the recommendations in the authority's triennial review report for 1985–88. When I have received these I shall consider how best to take forward the recommendations.
