HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c308W
Ms. Armstrong

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he will consider extending the closing date for responses to the consultative report, "Mathematics for Ages 5–16";

(2) how many individuals and organisations have applied for the consultation document, "Mathematics for Ages 5–16", and have not yet been sent one.

Mrs. Rumbold

The National Curriculum Council is responsible for consultations on the document "Mathematics for Ages 5–16". The NCC has distributed over 85,000 copies of the document, including some 40,000 copies to statutory consultees and schools and some 45,000 on request to other individuals and organisations. All requests received up to 24 October have been dealt with.

The NCC's 26 October deadline for comments on the proposed attainment targets and programmes of study has given statutory consultees up to 10 weeks to react. There is no case for extending this deadline.
