Mr. Colvin

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether consultants have been appointed to consider alternative routes for a bypass on the A36 at West Wellow; when the study is likely to take place; when the study will be completed; and when he expects to publish his recommendations for the proposed route.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

We hope to appoint consultants early next year to prepare for public consultation in late 1990. The announcement of a preferred route will depend on the outcome. It could be made in 1991.
