HC Deb 26 October 1988 vol 139 c235W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what arrangements will be made, in the light of the proposed water privatisation, to ensure the continuation of rights of access to reservoirs for those wishing to pursue passive leisure activities;

(2) what measures he intends to take, in the light of the proposed water privatisation, to protect the interests of those wishing to use the water-gathering grounds as a leisure area.

Mr. Moynihan

The private water companies will inherit the statutory duties of the water authorities in respect of public access to, and recreational use of their lands and waters. They will also be subject to a new code of practice on recreation and access, which will give guidance on discharging this duty.
