HC Deb 26 October 1988 vol 139 c200W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Prime Minister what information she has received from the United States Government on conclusions reached at the review conference of the anti-ballistic missile (ABM) treaty of 1972, which began on 24 August in Geneva between the United States of America and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, in relation to agreements reached in Washington DC in December 1984, at her meeting with the United States President on the Anglo-American interpretation of development of the strategic defence initiative in the context of existing treaties.

The Prime Minister

The United States Administration has given a full briefing to its NATO Allies on the results of the ABM treaty review. The meeting concentrated on issues of compliance with the ABM treaty, notably the Soviet large phased-array radar at Krasnoyarsk on which the Soviet Union did not resolve United States concerns. The four points that I agreed with President Reagan at Camp David in December 1984 did not bear directly on issues raised at the review.
