To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his plans for the development of industry in rural areas.

The Government's aim is to encourage growth and diversification in the rural economy in ways that will enhance the quality of life in rural communities and conserve our heritage. Various forms of assistance are available for that purpose, in particular from the Rural Development Commission.
