Mr. Carttiss

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give the accident figures for 1988 to the latest date and for 1987 and 1986, for the stretch of the A12 between Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft; and whether he will make a statement about a new junction at Hopton-on-Sea to provide for safer access to and from the Al2 to Hopton village.

Accident figures for this section of the Al2 trunk road are as follows:

1 January to June.

There are no plans for a new junction on the Al2 at Hopton-on-Sea.

The erection of warning signs to improve safety at this junction has been agreed with Norfolk county council which, as the Department's agents, is considering whether any further measures are necessary and justified on safety grounds.
