§ Mr. ButcherThere were 440,800 teachers employed for service in maintained nursery, primary and secondary schools in England at January 1979. The corresponding figure for January 1988 (the latest date for which data are available) is 401,500. Comparable figures for Wales are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
