HC Deb 25 October 1988 vol 139 c188W
42. Mr. Waller

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what further plans he has to promote industrial tourism; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

I am pleased to say that the CBI-Department of Employment-English tourist board conference on industrial tourism which I attended on 15 September aroused considerable interest. I hope that, as a result, many more companies will seriously consider opening their doors to more visitors; and I shall continue to take every opportunity to highlight the benefits that this can bring.

84. Sir John Farr

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the outcome of the CBI-ETB industrial tourism conference.

Mr. Lee

The conference held on 15 September attracted almost 200 delegates, representing some 140 public and private sector organisations. It received considerable publicity and has, I am certain, resulted in raising the awareness of the advantages to companies of opening their doors to visitors. The English tourist board is compiling a database of firms involved in industrial tourism as part of future marketing initiatives.
