Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police officers have been selected to attend the command courses at Bramshill police college in each of the last 10 years.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Police officers attending the junior command course, the intermediate command course and the overseas command course at the police staff college are nominated by the chief officers of the forces in which they are serving. The numbers of officers selected to attend the senior command course are as follows:

Number
1978 23
1979 25
1980 23

Number
1981 23
1982 15
1983 14
1984 14
1985 20
1986 20
1987 22

The selection for the senior command course normally takes place in November, and the courses themselves run from April to September. Officers selected in one year do not invariably take their place on the following year's course, but may attend one in a later year. The figures given relate to the year of selection, not the year of eventual attendance.

Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the positions of those serving senior police officers and the forces from which they came who were involved in each of the last 10 years in the selection of officers chosen to attend command courses at the police college, Bramshill.
