HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 c8W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications have been made for waivers under the Visiting Forces Act for each year since 1979.

Mr. John Patten

Requests for waiver under the Visiting Forces Act 1952 may be made either by the visiting force authorities where primary right of jurisdiction lies with United Kingdom courts, or by the United Kingdom where primary right of jurisdiction lies with the visiting force authorities. There is no requirement for central reporting of cases in either category, but their numbers are thought to be small.
