HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 cc44-5W
96. Mr. Knapman

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what information he has about the size of private aid flows to the Third world from other Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries, in relation to those from the United Kingdom.

Mr. Chris Patten

Comparative figures for grants to developing countries by voluntary agencies, which are the only type of net private aid flow recorded, are available only for the 18 member countries of the OECD's development assistance committee and, most recently, for 1986.

Following is the information:

Australia 27
Austria 13
Belgium 16
Canada 120
Denmark 8

In the same year the figure for grants from British voluntary agencies was £119 million, while total net private flows from the United Kingdom to developing countries stood at £2,916 million.
