HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 c115W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what training initiatives have been taken with respect to safety for staff serving at King's Cross station since the fire of November 1987.

Mr. Portillo

I understand that all London Underground's operations supervisory staff have received a refresher course in station fire procedures and fire fighting equipment. An on-the-job training course on fire and safety matters has been given at the stations to all station staff by the station supervisor. These courses are being repeated at regular intervals. All staff posted to stations new to them are being given familiarisation training by the station supervisor on arrival. All station supervisors are being given more simulation training in station evacuation, and additional station familiarisation training for complex stations such as King's Cross has been carried out with the emergency services.
