§ Sir Michael McNair-WilsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether responsibility for the existing A34 ring road round Newbury will remain with his Department in the event of a western bypass trunk road being built from Tot hill to the Donnington link on the current A34.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe A34 Newbury bypass proposals, currently being considered at public inquiry, provide for the detrunking of the existing A34 between the new Burghclere interchange and the Swan roundabout. We have no plans to detrunk the remainder of the A34 through Newbury as this also serves the A339 trunk route.
