To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many organisations have made representations to him in connection with the White Paper on reform of section 2 of the Official Secrets Act 1911 (Cm. 408); and if he will list those organisations.

Up to 21 October, my right hon. Friend had received representations on the proposals set out in the White Paper from the following nine organisations:

  • The Association of British Editors.
  • The BBC.
  • The Campaign for Freedom of Information.
  • The Guild of British Newspaper Editors.
  • The Law Society of Scotland.
  • The National Consumer Council.
  • The Newspaper Society.
  • The Press Council.
  • The Society of Authors.
