To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the average cost per mile of dual carriageway building in the Greater London area.

Major road improvements in London are aimed primarily at easing or eliminating severe congestion points. They often involve new junctions and structures rather than significant lengths of new carriageway. It is not possible to calculate an overall average cost per mile.

The five most recent trunk road schemes which have been completed or are currently under construction are as follows:
