HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 c116W
Mr. Goodlad

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will impose an early ban on the operation of(a) BAC 111 and (b) Boeing 727 aircraft at British airports.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

No. Aircraft of these types which are noise certificated to International Civil Aviation Organisation standards will be able to operate in the United Kingdom in accordance with our international obligations. Some of these aircraft which operate here are on foreign registers. The Government are playing a leading role in international negotiations towards the phasing out of the next noisiest ICAO category of aircraft, including the BAC 111 and the Boeing 727.
