Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will increase his grant aid to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Wales); how much he has given annually in real terms since 1979; what are his plans for funding levels for the years 1989–90, 1990–91 and 1991–92; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

In order to secure best value for money, the amount of grant in aid to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents up to 1992 is being reviewed and negotiations are still in progress. The annual grant paid since 1979 in real terms is as follows:

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will meet the Road Accident Prevention Federation for North and South Wales to discuss grant aid to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Wales) up to 1991–92; and if he will make a statement.

The amount of grant in aid given is a matter for discussion between the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and the Welsh Office. The Road Accident Prevention Federation for North and South Wales has conveyed its views in writing to my right hon. Friend and these will be taken into account.
