HC Deb 20 October 1988 vol 138 c984W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) if he will make a statement concerning the supply of blood to north Wales hospitals during the recent industrial dispute involving donor staff; and if he will list the numbers of staff employed in the blood donor service as it affects north Wales;

(2) what is the requirement of individual blood units for (a) Clwyd and (b) Gwynedd per week for the efficient running of the donor centres; and if he will list the numbers of individual donors for each of the months of 1988.

Mr. Grist

The collection of blood from donors and the supply of blood products to hospitals in Clwyd and Gwynedd is undertaken by the Mersey regional blood transfusion service. The information requested is not held by the Welsh Office although the Department maintains contact with the north Wales health authorities on the adequacy of blood supplies.
