§ Mr. SpearingTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list those proposals placed before the Council of Ministers of the European Economic Communities which implement the objective of the progressive realisation of economic and monetary union, as adopted at the Hanover European Council.
§ Mrs. ChalkerNo proposals on economic and monetary union have been considered by the Council of Ministers since June. The committee tasked by the Hanover European Council with studying and proposing concrete stages leading towards economic and monetary union is due to complete its proceedings in good time to enable the Ministers for Economic Affairs and for Finance to examine its results before the European Council in Madrid in June 1989.
