To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the achievements of his national anti-litter campaign.

The programme, launched by the Prime Minister, of experimental projects undertaken by the Tidy Britain Group is well under way. With Government support the group is running a series of project-based pilot schemes to tackle specific major problem areas over 12 months. The projects incorporate before and after studies to help assess the effectiveness of different approaches. It is too soon to reach conclusions, but I understand from the group that the projects are attracting good support from all sectors of the community.
