HC Deb 28 November 1988 vol 142 c164W
69. Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the latest available figure for the annual cost of road accidents to the National Health Service.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

It is estimated that the cost of road accidents to the National Health Service due to hospital treatment in 1987 was £146 million.

Fatalities have a low medical cost but an incalculable family cost.
