To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what steps he is taking to minimise the environmental damage of new roads.

We minimise the impact of new roads on the environment by careful design. We fit schemes into the landscape, plant trees and screen traffic. We take special measures to protect wildlife. The Department's publication "Transport and the Environment" gives examples of the measures that we employ.
