HC Deb 28 November 1988 vol 142 cc87-8W
Mr. Goodlad

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what funds have been specifically earmarked for the care of the mentally ill following the closure of mental hospitals in Wales in the last year; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Grist

No mental illness hospitals have closed during the last year. In 1988–89 some £2.4 million of additional central funds have been allocated to Welsh health authorities for new projects for the care of people with a mental illness.

Mr. Goodlad

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many residential places in the community will be provided in(a) the current and (b) the next year for those discharged from mental hospitals in Wales.

Mr. Grist

The information requested is not available. The number of places in homes for the mentally ill in each local authority in Wales is published in "Activities of Social Services Departments in Wales," a copy of which is in the Library of the House.
