HC Deb 15 November 1988 vol 140 cc605-9W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list those constituencies in which the number of people out of work and claiming benefit declined by less than 20 per cent. between August 1984 and 1988; and if he will state the percentage reductions and the current levels of unemployment as a percentage and in real terms.

Mr. Lee

The following information is in the Library. The table shows the parliamentary constituencies in Great Britain where the number of unemployed claimants has fallen by less than 20 per cent. between August 1984 and August 1988 together with the number of unemployed claimants in each constituency at the requested dates. The figures are affected by the change in compilation of the count in March 1986 to reduce over-recording.

indicates subsequently that more places are needed, the Training Agency area office arranges for such places to be made available.

Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will publish a list showing how many YTS places were available in each travel-to-work area; and how many of those places were taken in each month since January until the latest available date.

Mr. Cope

[holding answer 14 November 1988]: This information is not available by travel-to-work area. The number of YTS places available and the number of young people in training in each region for each month since January is shown in the table.
