HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 cc393-4W
Mr. French

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has any plans to introduce remuneration for special constables; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The possibility of paying some form of remuneration or bounty has been considered on a number of occasions, most recently by the conference on the special constabulary last year. The view taken at that conference was again not in favour of a bounty, but that there was need to review the allowances paid to special constables to ensure that they are not out of pocket when performing duty. In consultation with the police advisory board, my Department is carrying out that review.
