§ Mr. JannerTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what progress has been made since March 1986 in the formation, long-term organisation, financing and promotion of a national traffic club for pre-school children along the lines developed by the transport and road research laboratory.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyA traffic club could make a significant contribution to reducing road accidents involving children and remains a firm objective. We have considered various proposals but none of them would have reached enough of the children concerned. We are now considering further suggestions. I hope to make an announcement shortly.
