To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will give the import penetration in the United Kingdom market of 35 mm single lens reflex cameras, pocket computers, table-top computers, photocopiers, video recorders, black and white video cameras, colour video cameras, video camera battery packs and photographic tripods, stating the sources of imports in each case for 1987 and 1988 to the most recent practicable date.

We have information on photocopiers, 35 mm cameras, video tape recorders and video cameras; the other items are not individually identifiable.

Photocopiers

Import penetration for 1987 is not available because of disclosure on sales.

Major sources of imports were:

  • France
  • Netherlands
  • West Germany

For the first half of 1988 import penetration was 124 per cent.

Major sources of imports were:

  • West Germany
  • Japan
  • Netherlands

Note: There is a large amount of entrepot trade in photocopiers.
