HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 c392W
Mr. Butler

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now seek to encourage voluntary HIV screening for prisoners on reception.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

There are no plans to introduce routine blood tests on voluntary basis, but a test is arranged, after counselling, for any prisioner who requests one or who consents to a test where it is clinically recommended by the medical officer. Screening of all prisoners on first reception continues in the form of medical inquiry and examination.
