§ Mr. LawsonHer Majesty the Queen has been graciously pleased to approve my recommendation that gold coins be issued in 1989 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the introduction of the gold sovereign. Four coins will be issued: half-sovereign; sovereign; double sovereign and £5 piece. The coins will be struck for sale to collectors only. Details of the designs will be announced when the coins are issued on 31 January, 1989.
