HC Deb 09 November 1988 vol 140 cc203-4W
Mr. David Nicholson

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about the current state of Anglo-Brazilian relations.

Mr. Eggar

As I said in my reply of 19 October to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Lewisham, West (Mr. Maples), the United Kingdom enjoys traditionally good relations with Brazil, which we are seeking to develop. We welcome her return to democracy. Brazil is by far our largest export market in Latin America.

I have just returned from a most useful visit to Brazil during which I discussed a number of issues with the Brazilian authorities. My right hon. Friend the Minister of State, Department of Energy visited Brazil in October.
