To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his Department's estimate of the quantity of high, intermediate and low-level nuclear waste waiting to be(a) reprocessed and (b) dumped in the United Kingdom.

The latest available estimates of the stocks of radioactive wastes in the United Kingdom awaiting disposal (in conditioned waste volume equivalents) are as follows:

Intermediate level waste 59,400
Low level waste 2,300

Nuclear waste is not reprocessed.
