HC Deb 07 November 1988 vol 140 c20W
25. Mr. Illsley

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will make a statement on the implications for his Department's research and development funding of the impending closure of the Grimethorpe fluidised bed project.

22. Mr. Speller

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will institute an energy audit and energy conservation scheme for households based upon low interest loans administered by building society, bank, local authority, housing trust or other responsible organisations with repayment phased over the investment's pay-back period.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The provision of low- interest loans by financial and other institutions is a matter for their commercial judgment. The Government already operate schemes for improving the energy efficiency of housing by way of the homes insulation scheme and community insulation projects.

46. Mr. Barron

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what steps he is taking to ensure the continuation of the fluidised bed project at Grimethorpe; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The future of the facility is a matter for British Coal and private industry wishing to exploit the technology.
