To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what contribution his Department is making to research into the energy policy implications of the greenhouse effect.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The greenhouse effect is a complex and developing subject and the extent to which energy production and use contribute to the effect are not yet clear. The Government, in their commitment to the development of nuclear power and renewable sources, are taking steps to minimise energy's impact upon climatic conditions.
