HC Deb 04 November 1988 vol 139 cc804-5W
Mr. Onslow

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress his Department is making towards the establishment of salmon dealer licensing scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Proposals for salmon dealer licensing schemes in England, Wales and Scotland were circulated earlier this year. Work is in hand in drawing up schemes in the light of comments. We hope to obtain parliamentary approval of the necessary orders as quickly as possible.

Mr. Onslow

To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what reports have so far been completed by the Dunnett committee on salmon stocks; and when these reports will all be published.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Fisheries Ministers recently received the salmon advisory committee's first report entitled "Information on the status of salmon stocks". It was decided that this report should be published. It was released on 23 September and copies have been placed in the Library of the House. The salmon advisory committee continues to examine a range of factors affecting salmon stocks in Great Britain. Decisions on publication of any future reports to Ministers will be taken at the time.
