§ Mr. SnapeTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if his Department publishes any statistics relating to the road accident rates of drivers who have reached pensionable age.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyCasualty rates per 100,000 population by age, road user type and severity are published annually in table 30 of "Road Accidents Great Britain", which is available in the House of Commons Library. Casualty rates per distance driven by age of driver are estimated periodically. The most recent publication containing such estimates is TRRL research report 135 "The variation of car drivers' accident risk with age", which is also available in the House of Commons Library. Updated figures, based on this report, will be given in "Road Accidents Great Britain 1987", which is expected to be published at the end of November.
