HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 cc765-6W
Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the progess of his Department's review of standards on the Al9 as it affects the Easington constituency; if he will indicate the terms of reference given to the consultants who were commissioned by his Department to carry out this study; and if he will give an indication of the total cost of the study.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The fieldwork for the study of the A19 has been completed. The consultants report is being prepared and should be with the Department before the end of the year. The terms of reference for the study were:

  1. 1. to investigate the present and likely future problems caused by any inadequacy of the existing layout and standards of the road and its junction, to cater for present and predicted traffic flows;
  2. 2. to identify any environmental problems on the existing road; and
  3. 3. to identify improvements to alleviate these problems, either individually or conjointly that provide solutions with the best value for money.

The estimated cost of the study is £70,000.
