HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 cc729-30W
Mr. Butler

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the level of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in London's drinking water.

Mr. Moynihan

We are aware that drinking water samples taken within the London area have occasionally exceeded the standard set for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in the EC drinking water directive. Thames water is investigating. Our medical advisers consider that there is unlikely to be any significant health risk from drinking water which occasionaly exceeds the standards.
