HC Deb 02 November 1988 vol 139 cc664-7W
Mr. Nicholas Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list for each Welsh district the number of applications for regional selective assistance received, the number granted and total value awarded since 1 April.

Mr. Peter Walker

The following table gives by Welsh local authority districts, wholly or partly within assisted areas, the number of regional selective assistance applications received and the number and value of offers made between 1 April and 28 October 1988. The total level of applications and offers shows an encouraging increase over the same period in 1987, an indication that the expected additional uptake of RSA following the ending of the regional development grant scheme is taking place.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the amount of grant aid provided to companies in(a) Milford Haven, (b) Pembroke dock and

applications received for regional development grants, the number granted and the total value of regional development grants in each year since 1984.

Mr. Peter Walker

The following tables give by Welsh local authority districts, partly or wholly within the development areas, the number of applications received and the number and value of offers made under the revised regional development grant scheme (RDG II) from its introduction in November 1984 until 28 October 1988.

Records of the original development grant scheme (RDG I) are not available by local authority district. Total payments for Wales under the scheme for the financial years 1984–85 to 1987–88 were: £92.7 million (1984–85); £80.3 million (1985–86); £68 million (1986–87) and £22–8 million (1987–88).

(c) Haverfordwest from national and European funds in each year since 1984 and the number of companies assisted in each case.

Mr. Peter Walker

The principal forms of Government grant aid from which companies in the area benefit are regional selective assistance, regional development grants and regional enterprise grants (the latter two grant schemes are available in development areas only). Grant aid offered under the regional selective assistance and revised regional development grant (RDG II) schemes since 1984 to companies in the Haverfordwest and South Pembrokeshire travel to work areas is as follows:
