The number of attendance centre orders made in the 12 months ended 31 August 1987 was 10,518; in the four months from 1 September to 31 December that year it was 2,983. Figures for 1988 are not yet available. Because sessions are usually held on Saturday afternoons, the attendance centre order continues to be a useful penalty for some football hooligans.
