HC Deb 02 November 1988 vol 139 cc667-8W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of grants given to Clwyd county council under the all-Wales strategy has been used to fund administrative posts.

4. The above figures exclude payments to companies under the original Regional Development Grant Scheme (RDG I) which are recorded by former Employment Office Areas (EOA). RDG I payments in the relevant EOAs were as follows:—

£ thousand
EOA 1984 1985 1986 1987 11988
Milford Haven 1,210 446 50 121 282
Pembroke Dock 784 8,462 2,069 281 189
Haverfordwest 122 1,510 398 185
1 To 30 September.

In addition, the area benefits from other forms of Government assistance, including the urban policy initiatives and schemes of national assistance administered by the Department of Trade and Industry, and from the activities of the Welsh Development Agency by way of factory building, land reclamation, rural grant schemes and the new consultancy grant schemes available under the Enterprise Initiative.

Grants from the European regional development fund towards industrial investments represent a partial reimbursement for assistance already awarded to companies under the United Kingdom's regional aid schemes and are not therefore passed on to individual companies.
