HC Deb 27 May 1988 vol 134 c395W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether all scotch derrick cranes in use have been checked following the fatal accidents at Nantergantick quarry by people who are competent and who either can check, or have caused a check on cast iron components; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholls

[holding answer 26 May 1988]: Following the accident the mines and quarries inspectorate carried out a comprehensive review of all scotch derrick cranes in use at quarries. The review included advice to owners on proper procedures to establish whether or not critical components were made of cast iron.
