HC Deb 27 May 1988 vol 134 cc404-5W
Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has made to the European Commission concerning the views of the Welsh farming community on the devaluation of the green pound; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Walker

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food—with whom I work in close collaboration on all matters of importance to agriculture—has made it clear to the Agriculture Council that some devaluation is justified in the current price fixing. He is therefore pressing the Commission to make satisfactory proposals.
