Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Thames Valley as to whether the firearms certificate of the late Michael Ryan was in the possession of the Thames Valley police for the purposes of a variation to the certificate at the time of his death; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to his question on 31 March 1988 at column688.

Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Thames Valley as to between what dates the firearms certificate of the late Michael Ryan was in the possession of the Thames Valley police for the purposes of a variation to the certificate; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I understand from the chief constable that the dates in question in respect of the variation applications made by Michael Ryan are as follows: Between 24 March 1987 and 30 April 1987, sometime after 15 June 1987 (only the date when the certificate was called for is known) and 6 July 1987; and between 17 July and 3 August 1987.
