To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the latest figures for the proportion of children newly diagnosed with malignancy who are expected to survive.

The latest available information is shown in the table. It shows the percentage of children of each age groups which are expected to survive for five years after the date of diagnosis, based on cases newly diagnosed in 1981. It should be noted that survival is likely to vary considerably depending on the type and site of the cancer.
