§ Mr. Ron DaviesTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what were the numbers of prosecutions and convictions arising from water pollution offences in 1984–85, 1985–86, 1986–87 and 1987–88, respectively, in Wales.
§ Mr. GristThe Department has not instigated any prosecutions against the Welsh water authority in respect of discharges from sewage treatment works during the four years in question. Prosecution in respect of other discharges to water is the responsibility of the Welsh water authority and I have asked the chairman of the Welsh water authority to write to the hon. Gentleman.
