HC Deb 26 May 1988 vol 134 c296W
Mr. Alan Williams

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how much money remains unallocated under each expenditure heading for Wales for 1988–89.

Mr. Peter Walker

There are many areas of spending within my responsibility where resources remain which have not yet been specifically committed or allocated. These are far too numerous to detail.

I envisage that these remaining resources will be wholly spent during the course of the current financial year in accordance with the plans which have been clearly set out in the Wales chapter of the Government's "Expenditure Plans 1988–89 to 1990–91" (Cm. 288—11) and the Supply Estimate booklet (HC 339-XVII) presented to Parliament on 15 March.

Should circumstances change, it may be necessary for me to switch some of the uncommitted resources from one expenditure heading to another. Where these changes are significant, Parliament will be notified by means of the normal cash limit and Supplementary Estimate procedures.

Mr. Alan Williams

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what allocations of resources under each expenditure heading have been made to the south Wales valleys for the current year and for each of the next two years.

Mr. Peter Walker

Most of the resources under my control are allocated to local authorities and health authorities whose areas do not correspond precisely to the valleys. Allocations are also made to agencies which operate on an all-Wales basis. Specific expenditure allocations have not therefore been made to the valleys.
