HC Deb 26 May 1988 vol 134 c234W
Sir Geoffrey Finsberg

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has now considered the views expressed by the local authority employers and the teacher unions on his proposals following the report of the interim advisory committee on school teachers' pay and conditions.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

After careful consideration of the representations I have received, following the publication of the report from the interim advisory committee on school teachers' pay and conditions, I have decided. to accept the committee's recommendations on pay rates. Drafts of amendments to the "School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 1987," an order which will give effect to the 1988 document, and a circular to local education authorities, are being sent today to the relevant local authority associations, teacher unions and bodies representing the interests of the governors of voluntary schools inviting any comments by Wednesday 8 June
