HC Deb 26 May 1988 vol 134 cc252-3W
Sir Hector Monro

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what action he proposes to take in relation to applications for student awards for session 1987–88 which were not received by 31 December 1987.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

My right hon. and learned Friend has decided that the period for acceptance of valid applications for student awards for session 1987–88 should, exceptionally, be extended to 30 June 1988. He has taken this step in view of the fact that a small proportion of students have apparently relied hitherto on informal final reminders from their academic institutions that they should apply before the closing date, which could not be provided on this occasion. We are making arrangements to advise the individuals and institutions concerned immediately.
